Saturday or Sunday does it matter?………… Just make it in Spirit and Truth!

Saturday or Sunday does it matter? Ok.. So I was asked strongly ( I am being nice) to give my personal, but “if possible” biblical opinion of a born again Christians being required to “worship” on Saturday or Sunday. Which in my opinion “we” are not required to worship on Sunday either! But I was told “biblically” we must on Saturday, as we are to now fulfil the law because of Jesus. But did the bible really say or show this to us “Christians”?
My answer was .” we” as Christians only live on this side of the cross… not the other side.
So now having prayed and read and studied some more I will answer more biblically.. I do not like to “argue” but like Paul did, I will debate my scriptural position as I believe we are only “alive” in Christ on this side of the cross. And the law on other side of the cross killed us, as law only gave strength to sin.(1Cor15:56)

But I was told Paul taught on Saturday in the synagogues… And did so after the cross. And so I found plenty of info “scripturally” in bible, and online, some that I have quoted here too, regarding this subject which agrees with Paul’s teaching in Romans, Galatians, Hebrews, and this in (Ephesians 2:13) that we are “not under law or ordinances”, but are as Paul clearly taught under grace through faith, while “in” the resurrected Jesus Christ. Saying that is how we got saved.(Eph 2:8-9). So then how does Paul teach this and seemingly do opposite by going to synagogue on Saturday ? And remember Paul had also confronted Peter in Acts for going back to other side of cross in “life style”,when Peter was saved.(Gal2:2-16).

But it is also true Paul did go to synagogues and teach so….” What we do have, are frequent examples of Paul preaching to non-Christian Jews in THEIR synagogue on THEIR Sabbath day, that “they” are lost without Jesus! Should this surprise us? (Jesus did the same thing) Do Sabbatarian Pastors “keep Sunday” if they preach in a Christian church on the first day of the week?” …Of all the many passages…” None of these passages, or any other in the New Testament, ever speak of Christians worshipping on the Sabbath day.

If Paul preaching to Jews on the Sabbath day proves he kept the Sabbath, then it also proves Paul kept synagogue worship as well!” …..(As was required by law.) If Paul “kept the Sabbath” because he preached Christ to non-Christian Jews on THEIR Sabbath day in THEIR synagogue: then Paul also kept all the other ceremonial laws that the non-Christian Jews practised while he was there as well… So.. “then a Seventh-day Adventist pastor “keeps Monday” just because he preaches to Muslims in their Mosque on Monday that they are lost without Christ!

And…Then a Seventh-day Adventist pastor “keeps Sunday” just because he preaches to a church of “Sunday keeping” Christians on “Sunday” that they are breaking the Sabbath law.
“What proves too much proves nothing at all! ” as I learned…. And as we see in (Acts19:8-9)

Paul removed himself from going anymore to a synagogue for two years teaching in school of Tyrannus daily!
But we also see Paul taught daily, but teaching does not say keeping Sabbath either

And just because the very first preaching of the Gospel occurred on the day of Pentecost, does not mean a Christian must keep Pentecost! (Acts 2:1-38)
Even though Paul also rushed to get back to Jerusalem “on” Pentecost: (Acts 20:16)
and Pentecost always fell on a Sunday! ( Lev23:15-21 ) And as commanded to worship on it. “A holy convocation.”.
Does this mean he was keeping Pentecost feast?
No! It provided him a great opportunity to teach on Jesus grace!

No where after the resurrection is “keeping the Sabbath according to the commandment” said.”.. Although many things are repeatedly said, and reinforced..but not that.
I know some have said, But “In (Acts 18:4), Paul’s custom was to worship on the Sabbath with Greeks. This proves it was not a Jewish worship service but a Christ centered worship service separate from the Jewish synagogue worship. The Greeks were uncircumcised and did not keep the Sabbath or the Law of Moses ” … “Notice the word “persuade”. Paul’s work here was 100% evangelism. There is no example of Paul ever meeting on the Sabbath day for worship.

Notice also that these were “unbelievers” in Christ before Paul preached to them. Yes they believed in the Jewish system, but the Bible says in (Acts 14:1), that they BECAME believers proving Paul’s work there was evangelism not worship.
The Greeks were Jewish converts to Judaism known as “proselytes.” ..So they were not pagan Greeks but Greeks who “practised” the law of Moses and kept the Sabbath. just as if the Greek person was a native Hebrew. The only Greeks that were in the synagogue would be these “proselytes”. These Greeks certainly were “not Christians”.
(Acts 13:43) “Now when the meeting of the synagogue had broken up, many of the Jews and of the God-fearing proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas, who, speaking to them, were urging them to continue in the grace of God.”
(Acts 14:1) “In Iconium they entered the synagogue of the Jews together, and spoke in such a manner that a large number of people believed, both of Jews and of Greeks.”
(Acts 17:4) “And some of them were persuaded and joined Paul and Silas, along with a large number of the God-fearing Greeks and a number of the leading women.
(Acts 18:4) “And he was reasoning in the synagogue every Sabbath and trying to persuade Jews and Greeks.”..

And some have also said  “Paul kept the Law”, therefore the Sabbath is still binding!” (Additional Sabbatarian proof texts: Acts 21:20-28; Acts 24:14; Acts 26:22; Rom 3:31)…Please look closely here…

” (Acts 21:20-28) “And when they heard it they began glorifying God; and they said to him, “You see, brother, how many thousands there are among the Jews of those who have believed, and they are all zealous for the Law; and they have been told about you, that you are teaching all the Jews who are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses,… “telling them not to circumcise their children nor to walk according to the customs”… “What, then, is to be done? They will certainly hear that you have come. “Therefore do this that we tell you. We have four men who are under a vow; take them and purify yourself along with them, and pay their expenses in order that they may shave their heads; and all will know that there is nothing to the things which they have been told about you, but that you yourself also walk orderly, keeping the Law.
Acts 21:20-28: says forsake Moses & circumcise = keeping the Law

If Sabbatarians are right, then they better start also practising circumcision
But we do not “require” this either, as now our hearts are circumcised not the flesh!(Rom 2:28-29 ) We are not under law. (Philip 3:3)

“Paul understood that Moses had prophesied Jesus coming. To “give heed to Jesus” is how you KEEP THE LAW of MOSES! Think of it as the law of Moses’ own self destruct mechanism, it’s power was cancelled. Moses told the Jews to keep his law UNTIL Jesus came. Then they were to ignore the Law of Moses and listen only to Jesus. In that way,  Christian’s who exclusively obey Jesus could be said to be keeping the Law of Moses. This is what Paul means by the following verses:

(Acts 3:22) “Moses said, ‘The Lord God shall raise up for you a prophet like me from your brethren; to Him you shall give heed in everything He says to you. ‘And it shall be that every soul that does not heed that prophet shall be utterly destroyed from among the people.
(Acts 24:14) “But this I admit to you, that according to the Way which they call a sect I do serve the God of our fathers, believing everything that is in accordance with the Law, and that is written in the Prophets; having a hope in God
(Rom 3:31) “Do we then nullify the Law through faith? May it never be! On the contrary, we establish the Law”  (Only through faith in Christ)
(Acts 26:22) “And so, having obtained help from God, I stand to this day testifying both to small and great, stating nothing but what the Prophets and Moses said was going to take place; that the Christ was to suffer, and that by reason of His resurrection from the dead He should be the first to proclaim light both to the Jewish people and gentile.

When Paul says that he “kept the Law”, he was referring to the fact that Moses and the prophets foretold of Christ. and that being a Christian was foretold in the law. In a very real sense it was the Jewish “non-Christians” who refused to heed Jesus, who were in fact REJECTING WHAT MOSES SAID! …. For what the law could not do God did or us!..As God said through Paul.

(Rom 8:3-4) Amp-For God has done what the Law could not do, [its power] being weakened by the flesh [[a]the entire nature of man without the Holy Spirit]. Sending His own Son in the guise of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, [God] condemned sin in the flesh [[b]subdued, overcame, deprived it of its power over all who accept that sacrifice],
4 So that the righteous and just requirement of the Law might be fully met in us who live and move not in the ways of the flesh but in the ways of the Spirit [our lives governed not by the standards and according to the dictates of the flesh, but controlled by the Holy Spirit].”

And says ..
(Gal 3:10-18)Amp-” And all who depend on the Law [who are seeking to be justified by obedience to the Law of rituals] are under a curse and doomed to disappointment and destruction, for it is written in the Scriptures, Cursed (accursed, devoted to destruction, doomed to eternal punishment) be everyone who does not continue to abide (live and remain) by all the precepts and commands written in the Book of the Law and to practice them.
11 Now it is evident that no person is justified (declared righteous and brought into right standing with God) through the Law, for the Scripture says, The man in right standing with God [the just, the righteous] shall live by and out of faith and he who through and by faith is declared righteous and in right standing with God shall live.
12 But the Law does not rest on faith [does not require faith, has nothing to do with faith], for it itself says, He who does them [the things prescribed by the Law] shall live by them [not by faith].
13 Christ purchased our freedom [redeeming us] from the curse (doom) of the Law [and its condemnation] by [Himself] becoming a curse for us, for it is written [in the Scriptures], Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree (is crucified);
14 To the end that through [their receiving] Christ Jesus, the blessing [promised] to Abraham might come upon the Gentiles, so that we through faith might [all] receive [the realization of] the promise of the [Holy] Spirit.
15 To speak in terms of human relations, brethren, [if] even a man makes a last will and testament (a merely human covenant), no one sets it aside or makes it void or adds to it when once it has been drawn up and signed (ratified, confirmed).
16 Now the promises (covenants, agreements) were decreed and made to Abraham and his Seed (his Offspring, his Heir). He [God] does not say, And to seeds (descendants, heirs), as if referring to many persons, but, And to your Seed (your Descendant, your Heir), obviously referring to one individual, Who is [none other than] Christ (the Messiah).
17 This is my argument: The Law, which began 430 years after the covenant [concerning the coming Messiah], does not and cannot annul the covenant previously established (ratified) by God, so as to abolish the promise and make it void.
18 For if the inheritance [of the promise depends on observing] the Law [as these false teachers would like you to believe], it no longer [depends] on the promise; however, God gave it to Abraham [as a free gift solely] by virtue of His promise.”… We are only saved by grace through Faith! And only sanctified by Jesus too ! (1Cor 1:30).. An we cannot be separated from Him or His love (Rom 8:9 ) If I need any old testament proof of not needing to keep Saturday Sabbath. The law book is Leviticus. And as stated so well here I shall quote it. And may “biblically” prove we should worship as Christians on Sunday if I need to be picking a day.

“LEVITICUS 23:5-11 – Look at verse 11: “‘And he shall wave the sheaf before the Lord for you to be accepted; on the day after the sabbath the priest shall wave it.'” The day after the Sabbath is Sunday.

Read on specifically looking at Leviticus 23:15 – “‘You shall also count for yourselves from the day after the sabbath, from the day when you brought in the sheaf of the wave offering; there shall be seven complete sabbaths. You shall count fifty days to the DAY AFTER THE SEVENTH SABBATH; then you shall present a new grain offering to the Lord.'” This is the Feast of Pentecost. It was one of the compulsory feasts of Israel.

Note on the day of Pentecost, a Sunday God’s people were commanded to worship. God says, “On this same day you shall make a proclamation as well; you are to have aholy convocation. You shall do no laborious work. It is to be perpetual statue in all your dwelling places throughout your generations.” Leviticus 23:21.

If you think this is only applying to “ceremonial” days, Leviticus 23 starts out talking about the weekly Sabbath (see Lev. 23:1-4). It is called an appointed time and a holy convocation, along with all the other feast days of Israel. No distinction is made by God between these holy days and the weekly Sabbath. He includes them as being equally holy. This would mean that under the Old Covenant the First Fruits Sunday and the Pentecost Sunday were as holy and sanctified as Saturday.

Jesus by His Spirit (Gal 4:6) continues by “grace” to strengthen us (1Tim 1:14) along with faith and love! And love makes faith work ! (Gal 5:6 ) And God is love!(1John 4:8 )…. And so hopefully may “we” all come to the unity of the faith! (Eph4:3)Amp- “Be eager and strive earnestly to guard and keep the harmony and oneness of [and produced by] the Spirit in the binding power of peace.”

I therefore say “focus” on and believe in, and follow the resurrected Jesus on “this side” of the cross of Christ Jesus. And worship Him on everyday you have breath! And rest “in” the Lord of the Sabbath. (Mat 12:8)which also was said..but said to the “Pharisees” who argued about law… before the sins of mankind nailed to the cross canceling them AND the decrees against us. ( Col 2:14 ) Establishing the New covenant, thus making the Old Testament power against us…disappear. ( Hebrews 8:13 ) … Because the law is not for the righteous. (1Tim 1:9 )..  and “we” as believers are the righteousness of God in Christ. ( 2Cor 5:21 )… I think Paul taught and lived clearly, that no Sabbath keeping is “required.”…But it is a honour to assemble ourselves together, and should not forsake it! ( Heb10:25 ) to worship our Lord and saviour, and to take a rest day to to honour the Lord our God, made possible by His Spirit in us. As we are now the temple of the holy Ghost. (1Cor6:19)… We are the place of worship!

May we all be blessed together in Christ Jesus and what ever day you “chose” to worship Him,…

and may it just be as God desired in Spirit and in Truth. (John 4:24). Amen.                                                                                                                      Let us “clearly” follow the narrow road, and stay in the light… Of Jesus!  Rev. Ernie Harpster
